Bed Down in a Vintage Pickup Truck in Kentucky

Get your inner redneck on when you sleep in the bed of a vintage Ford pickup truck. If that’s not your cup of tea, choose from a plethora of other themed suites, all offering an integrated sensory experience.

  • Location: A 15-minute drive south of Cincinnati, OH, and less than 30 minutes from Williamstown’s Ark Encounter, the Wildwood Inn in Florence, KY, is smack dab in the middle of a major thoroughfare full of dining and entertainment options.
  • Amenities: In addition to relishing the experience of your theme room, the community area offers plenty of fun. There is a massive glass atrium dome, along the style of a rainforest, with heated lagoon pool, waterfall, dry sauna, pool tables, ping pong tables, and lush greenery galore. The individual theme suites all have a jacuzzi tub, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Breakfast is served, although has been somewhat limited since the pandemic. Please check in advance.
  • Tripsy Gypsy’s Musings:  I adore this motel, and I have stayed here more than once. On this particular visit I booked the Country Suite. You open the door to find a fabulously rusted out 1948 Ford pickup truck in the ”front yard” of an all kinds o’ country abode. The bed of the pickup truck is your actual bed for the night, and it’s mighty soft and cozy. There are hubcaps decorating the fence, an outhouse in the corner, and an old school wringer washing machine on the porch. (The bathroom is the only room “inside” the shanty.) But as funky-fabulous as this motel is, it’s not luxurious. The bathroom, jacuzzi, tub, bed, microwave and all hard surfaces are immaculately clean, but the rooms are dark and the carpets have perhaps seen better days. If you have a tendency towards feeling unsafe, it may not be the best option for you. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very secure in my suite, as they have security bolts on the door. However, I was traveling for an extended period with a vehicle full of my belongings, and the parking lot at night did give me pause. That being said, it hasn’t been a deterrent to my staying here multiple times. I simply find the quirkiness of this offbeat motel delicious!
  • Cost: $$.
